How to set up Smart STB on a Smart TV

Smart STB is an app for Smart TVs (Samsung, LG, Philips and Android TV) that makes your TV work like a MAG set-top box. It signs in with a MAC address instead of a username and password.

Before you start

• Smart STB is a paid app sold by its own developer, with a free trial. The licence is paid to them, not to us.
• Your rentIPTV account must be set up for MAC address login. An account is either MAC-based or username-based, and it can’t be switched later. About MAC address login.

Step 1: Install Smart STB

Open your TV’s app store, search for Smart STB and install it.

Step 2: Find the virtual MAC address

Open Smart STB. Press the Menu button on the remote (or wait for the menu on first start), go to Settings > Device info, and write down the Virtual MAC address. It starts with 00:1A:79.

Step 3: Order with that MAC address

At checkout, choose MAG / STB box as your device and enter the virtual MAC in the MAC address field. Already ordered? Message us with your order number and MAC address.

Step 4: Start the Smart STB trial or licence

On your phone or computer, go to the Smart STB website, open My licence and sign in with the TV’s MAC details to start the free trial or buy a licence.

Step 5: Add the portal URL

Your welcome email includes the portal URL.

1. In Smart STB, go to Settings > System settings > Portals.
2. Set Portal 1 name to rentIPTV and Portal 1 URL to the portal URL from your email, exactly as written.
3. Save and restart the app.

Smart STB loads live TV, movies, series and the TV guide.

If something isn’t working

• “STB blocked” or “not authorised”: the MAC address on our side doesn’t match. Check it in Device info and send it to us.
• App stuck in demo mode: the Smart STB trial or licence isn’t active yet. Check My licence on their website.
• Loading forever: check the portal URL for typos and restart the app.
